Peter Pan and Wendy

This is my latest project. I discovered an edition of Peter Pan and Wendy with some lively illustrations by Gwynedd Hudson. It can be quite an expensive book to buy as it's out of print and often goes for silly prices on ebay.

My copy was falling apart so I thought I'd sell some of the pictures for other people to enjoy. You can see some of them here.
I became interested in the artist, who sadly died at a young age, and after pursuing that interest a little, I thought, how about publishing an e-book with Gwynedd's pictures? The rights for Peter Pan were bequeathed, by J. M. Barrie, to what is now called "Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens' Charity" who allow it to be published under licence with an agreed percentage of net profits helping to support the charity.

The book is now for sale. I will be posting some more pictures soon.

Natasha's Guest Book

This is the guest book I made for my niece, Natasha and her husband Owain. As you can see I took these photos before it was filled in by the guests. It looked great with all the good wishes and comments written all over the pictures.

New Banner

A short while ago, I found my love hearts banner had disappeared from my Etsy shop so I decided to make a completely different one, which you see above. Months ago, I did actually inform Swizzels that I was using the sweeties in my design but they did not bother to contact me about it, although they did add something about trademarks on one of their websites.

Making ePubs and other eBooks

The English Struwwelpeter, by Heinrich Hoffman.

I've always been fascinated by this book so I thought I'd use this old copy (1850) to work out how to make an eBook in ePub and .mobi versions.  What a palaver!

Writing epubs

My latest endeavour is writing epubs so I can publish my tutorials in another format. As the files are currently in PDF form I have to rewrite them in xhtml as they have to be written up as web pages. As is always the case with anything to do with computers, this is more of a pain than I first envisaged.

Another New Book

I made this little book to be used as a necklace. It's based on the Nag Hammadi Codices. It's a real  book and you can write in it.

I have got a few more designs on the way. This one is made from calf leather which is very silky and tactile.

Did I shoot myself in the foot, I wonder?

I was approached by Lark books recently and asked to submit my book necklace design to be included in a book to be published later this year. I submitted the design which was accepted. So that was nice. However, when I read the contract closely, I realised I couldn't agree with it as it was, and they didn't want to change it. So that was that. If I'd signed, I'd have lost all rights over the design. Boo, hoo! Enough of that. Here's the book:

Book from Tallin 1539

A while ago I wrote a tutorial on how to make a Mediaeval book from Tallin, Estonia. I was really pleased today to see some of the fantastic books made by a group of bookbinders in Holland. The link to the website is here:
If you click on "Collage" in the left column, and then on "16e eeuws Tallin boek" you can see them all. There are some fine books on this website.

Valentine's Book in Masu box

Here is my latest book design, a teeny, tiny little Valentine, love message book, with a matching masu box.

The front cover reads: LOVE YOU

The back cover reads: REAL LOVE

The pages read: I L O V E Y O U

This would make a delightful surprise gift for the one you love.
